What it does
EqualAI connects to ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, you can ask about your EqualAI projects in plain language, such as how visible your brand is in AI answers this month, which prompts you are missing from, which competitors are mentioned instead, and which websites AI models cite.
The connection is read-only. It answers from data EqualAI has already collected for the projects you approve. It cannot create, edit or delete anything, and it does not run new AI checks or generate reports.
Before you start
You need:
- An EqualAI account with an active subscription.
- At least one EqualAI project with tracked prompts. Results appear once EqualAI has collected answers for them.
- A ChatGPT or Claude plan that allows plugins or connectors. Availability depends on your plan and, for team workspaces, on your administrator's settings.
Connect ChatGPT
Open the Plugins directory in ChatGPT, search for EqualAI and select Add. ChatGPT opens the EqualAI sign-in page.
Sign in with your EqualAI account, tick the projects ChatGPT may read and select Approve. You return to ChatGPT, and EqualAI is ready to use in your conversations.
Until the listing is available in your region, a workspace administrator can add EqualAI as a custom connector with the server URL https://app.equalai.io/api/mcp and OAuth authentication.
Connect Claude
In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Settings, then Connectors, find EqualAI in the directory and select Connect. You can also install the EqualAI plugin, which adds the connector together with skills for setup and visibility reports.
If EqualAI is not listed for your account yet, choose Add custom connector and enter https://app.equalai.io/api/mcp. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds the connector first, and each member then connects with their own EqualAI account.
In Claude Code, run: claude mcp add --transport http equalai https://app.equalai.io/api/mcp, then run /mcp and authenticate.
In every case you sign in on the EqualAI page, choose the projects to share and approve read-only access.
Things to ask
Try questions like these once you are connected:
- How visible is my brand in AI answers over the last 30 days?
- Which of my tracked prompts have the lowest mention rate, and who gets mentioned instead?
- How does my brand compare with my competitors in AI answers this quarter?
- Which websites do AI models cite most often for my prompts?
- Show me what the AI models actually answered for my weakest prompt.
- Write an AI visibility report for my project for the last 90 days.
Available tools
Every tool reads stored data only, limited to the projects you approved:
- list_projects and get_project: the connected projects and their details.
- get_visibility_summary: mention rate, visibility score, previous-period comparison, breakdown by AI model, sentiment and trend for 1 to 90 days.
- list_prompt_performance: tracked prompts ranked by mention rate, lowest or highest first.
- get_competitor_mentions: your mention rate beside each configured competitor.
- list_cited_domains and list_citations: the domains and pages AI answers cite, and who owns them where known.
- list_prompt_answers: up to five recent stored AI answers for one prompt, each shortened to 4,000 characters.
- list_prompts, list_competitors, list_reports and list_recommendations: your configured records and existing recommendations.
- search and fetch: find and open prompts, competitors, report names, recommendations and citations.
Permissions and data
The assistant receives only what a tool returns for the projects you approved: visibility metrics, prompt text, competitor names, cited domains and URLs, report and recommendation titles, and short excerpts of stored AI answers. It never receives your password, billing details, API keys, Google Analytics or Search Console credentials, or data from projects you did not approve.
EqualAI checks your sign-in, subscription and project membership on every request. If you lose access to a project, or your subscription ends, the assistant stops receiving that project's data.
EqualAI stores the approval, encrypted access tokens, and a usage log entry for each tool call with the tool name, the assistant, the outcome and the duration. It does not store your conversations with ChatGPT or Claude. Data you see in a conversation is also handled by that assistant under its own privacy terms. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Limits
Lists return up to 50 items per page. Visibility figures cover up to the newest 5,000 responses in the period. Reading stored answers is limited to 10 requests a minute and 200 a day for each user and project. Overall usage is limited to 60 requests a minute for each connection. Dates are in UTC.
Change or revoke access
To share different projects, disconnect EqualAI in your assistant and connect again. To end access, open AI Assistant Access in EqualAI (https://app.equalai.io/mcp/access) and revoke the connection. Revoking takes effect on the assistant's next request. You can also remove EqualAI from your assistant's plugin or connector settings.
Troubleshooting
If connecting or using EqualAI does not work:
- Finish the EqualAI sign-in in the same browser the assistant opened, within 10 minutes. If it expires, start again from the assistant.
- If you are new to EqualAI, finish sign-up and email verification first, then start the connection again from the assistant.
- If the assistant says no project is available, check that your subscription is active and that you are still a member of the projects you approved.
- If tool calls start failing after a password reset or signing out of all devices, reconnect EqualAI. Those actions end every assistant connection.
- If answers are missing for a recent period, EqualAI may not have collected answers for those prompts yet.
Support
Email team@equalai.io with the assistant you use, the approximate time of the problem and what you asked. Do not send passwords or access tokens. More help is on our support page.
